Are You A Rescuer?

“When He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd” (Matthew 9:36)

Are You A Rescuer?

Have you ever been to the beach?  Here in Florida, we often get extremely dangerous riptides.  For those non-beach goers out there, a riptide is where the waves come crashing into shore, and then the water returns, making a river with a very strong current going directly back out into the ocean.  If a person’s not careful, they can get pulled right into a rip current and very quickly end up1/2 mile off shore.  I once found myself in a riptide in Hawaii and almost lost my life. Many people drown every year from these deadly traps!      Recently, there was a story in the headlines that really moved me.  A large church youth group was visiting the beach on the west coast.  Without warning, a young man wading in the water was yanked by a riptide, was swept out to sea, and vanished.  Immediately, the panicked youth group relentlessly looked for him and called for help.  There was no trace of him.  In approximately10 minutes, the surf rescue team was on scene.  During the search, twenty-plus kids from the youth group, kneeling on the sand, sobbed uncontrollably and prayed, a truly heart wrenching sound and sight if ever there was one.  It took another 15 minutes before the rescue swimmers found his lifeless body floating in the ocean.  Time was of the essence and they had no time to waste.  They grabbed him and pulled him aboard the Jet Ski and rushed his lifeless body to the beach.  Then, to the absolute amazement of all, he miraculously was revived and saved!   In the same manner, God is pleading for us to rush to the masses and rescue them!  Time is of the essence!  What type of person could sit back on the beach in apathy while someone is dying in the ocean?  What kind of person could care less if the perishing person dies?  If they could ignore it, they’re heartless.  No, a person with any heart would do everything in his/her power, whatever it takes,

to rescue the perishing.   Likewise, there’s a multitude all around us dying in a sea of sin!   Have you ever noticed that in a rescue attempt, the rescuer must go to the perishing?  The perishing doesn’t come to the rescuer.  I’ve never seen a drowning person swim to the lifeguard to ask for help.  The lifeguard rushes to the drowning person!  I want to challenge you to be a rescuer for Jesus and rush to that neighbor, friend, relative, classmate, or worker who’s perishing and tell him/her there’s a Savior who loves them and wants to come into their life to save them! Sadly, many lost people around us remain just that, lost forever, because we’re waiting for them to come to us!  But the reality is, most lost people have no intention of going to a religious meeting to hear a religious speaker talk about a religious subject in a religious place.  Often the biggest mistake Christians make in getting the Good News to dying people is we’re waiting for them to come to us.  Most of our efforts to change people’s destiny from hell to heaven focus on the lost coming to our meetings, to our buildings, to our places of worship.  Tragically, most of those lost and dying people remain just that, lost and dying!
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” (Matthew 28:19-20) But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. (Acts 1:8)
They’re looking for a church about as much as a thief is looking for a policeman.  They’re not looking.  They’re not coming to us, so we need to rush to them!  We have to take the initiative and “go.”  Whatever the risk, no matter what the cost, we must rush to them and rescue them.  Dr. Chuck Kelly said, “The only thing that is worse than being lost, is being lost and nobody is looking for you!”  The question is are we even looking for them?   The great 19th century evangelist, D.L. Moody, once commented that one day he saw a painting that captivated him, and he immediately purchased it.  It was a picture of a man coming out of the stormy-tempestuous waves clinging to the cross with both arms.  Later, Moody said that he found another picture which spoiled the first painting altogether.  It was an engraving of a man coming out of the stormy-tempestuous waves clinging to the cross with one hand, and with the other hand pulling another person to safety.  Moody said, “That is what I like.  Keep a firm hold upon the cross, but always try to rescue another from drowning.”  As you and I tenaciously cling to the cross every day, I challenge you to reach out and grab hold of the perishing that are all around you in the sea of sin.  This same D.L. Moody said he envisioned himself in a lifeboat every day, and as he paddled in the sea of sin, his objective was to daily rescue as many perishing as he could before it was too late.  Jesus said, “Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.” (John 4:35)   Maybe you’re thinking right now, “Well I just don’t believe in confrontational evangelism, I believe in lifestyle evangelism.”  So do I, that is, if you define lifestyle evangelism as making Jesus known every day as a lifestyle.  But if you mean never opening your mouth to share the life-giving Gospel, well I respectfully choose to disagree.  You see, there’s only one problem with that point of view; it’s unbiblical!  When you read the book of Acts, you see a common thread throughout the book, a common denominator.  The believers were constantly going out from the church and reaching as many people for Jesus as they could.  Throughout the Scriptures, you consistently see that the church was an offensive entity!  They didn’t sit around a campfire and sing Kumbaya.  No!  They were passionate about the One who was passionate for them!  The disciple’s earnest plea throughout the Book of Acts was, “Lord, grant that Thy servants speak with all boldness,” and they went into the highways and byways boldly and compassionately making Jesus known.  They were passionate about their Savior!  They wanted to make their Savior known because of the intrinsic fire and love that consumed their heart for their Savior.  The Bible says, “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God” (Romans 10:17).  They knew this, embraced this, and acted upon this.   Let me ask you a question.  Suppose you were walking down your street and you saw a family on the second floor of their house in the dining room.  They were eating, laughing, and enjoying themselves.  You probably wouldn’t want to interrupt them.  However, what if you walked by and saw raging flames engulfing the lower floor of the house; would you just walk on by?  No!  You would beat on the door; maybe even kick it down as you raced to warn them of their impending doom.  Even so, if we have any heart, we will rush to those perishing all around us. Jesus was approaching Jerusalem, and “When He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd” (Matthew 9:36).  The Greek word “splagchnos” is the word for bowels or intestines.  It means to be moved to the gut level.  In other words, Jesus was so burdened, so broken over the lostness of Jerusalem that he felt like He needed to vomit.  Are you so burdened over the lostness of the world to the point of being nauseous?  You see, having compassion isn’t just having sympathy or even having pity; it’s even more than being stirred emotionally or to tears.  Compassion means “being stirred to action.”  It conveys being proactive, taking initiative and doing something.

John Harper: An unseen hero of unshakable faith

It was declared “The unsinkable ship.”  Tradition tells us that an employee of the White Star Lines who built the Titanic boastfully stated that “Not even God can sink the Titanic.”  Many of us are familiar with the immense tragedy that happened over 100 years ago with the RMS Titanic, but there is more to the sinking of the Titanic than a historical tragedy.  There is a story of courageous heroism of a man with incredible faith.  Among all the passengers who boarded the Titanic, there was a simple man, a pastor whose name was John Harper, who was passionate about JESUS.  He was a man who was saved at the age of 13; GOD called him to preach at 17; and he was passionate about the Lord and His Kingdom. As John Harper’s life unfolded, one thing was apparent…he was consumed by the Word of God.  Every day after working at the mill, for over five years, he could be found preaching the Word of God on street corners.  John Harper loved his Savior and his heart was consumed with a fire that could not be quenched.  This fire was seen by Pastor E. A. Carter of Baptist Pioneer Mission in London, England, who called him to the work in a church.  This set Harper free to devote all of his time and energy for the Kingdom of God.  Soon, John Harper started his own church in September of 1896, now known as the Harper Memorial Church.  When asked by different pastors what his doctrine was, he consistently replied, “The Word of God.”  This church which John Harper started began with 25 members, and had grown to over 500 members when he left 13 years later.  During this period of time, he fell in love and got married, but was shortly widowed after the birth of their daughter, Nana. Almost as if God had been preparing him, ironically, John Harper almost drowned several times during his life.  When he was two-and-a-half years of age, he drowned when he fell into a well, but was resuscitated by his mother.  At the age of twenty-six, he was swept out to sea by a riptide and barely survived, and at thirty-two, he faced death on a leaking ship in the Mediterranean. On April 11, 1912, when the Titanic began her voyage, John Harper boarded the RMS Titanic with his six year old daughter, Nana, to come to America to preach a revival at the Moody Bible Institute.  There were three classes of passengers on board: first, second, and third class.  Aboard this luxurious ocean liner, there were some of the wealthiest people in the world desiring to embark on her maiden voyage.  While many passengers spoke of their next business deal, their acquisitions and material desires, John Harper could be seen diligently sharing the love of Christ with others.  In the days leading up to the tragedy, survivors reported seeing Harper living like a man of faith, speaking kind words and sharing the love of Christ. It was the night of April 14, 1912, when the RMS Titanic sailed swiftly on the bitterly cold ocean waters heading unknowingly into the pages of history.  As passengers danced in the ballroom and tried their luck at the card tables, John Harper put his daughter to bed and read his devotions as he did every night.  At 11:40 p.m. on that fateful night, the Titanic struck an iceberg.  The “unsinkable” ship was doomed once the ship’s starboard side scraped an iceberg, showering the decks with ice and ripping open six watertight compartments.  The sea poured in; either in disbelief or unaware at the time, passengers continued about their pleasures.  It wasn’t until the ship’s crew sent up a series of distress flares that passengers realized the seriousness of their situation.  Then chaos ensued.  It all happened so fast.  Harper quickly awakened his daughter, picked her up and wrapped her in a blanket before carrying her up to the deck.  He took his daughter to lifeboat 11.  As a widowed preacher, John Harper could have easily gotten on board this lifeboat to safety; however, it never seemed to have crossed his mind. He bent down; the flares reflected off the tears streaming down his face, he looked into his daughter’s eyes and told her that she would see him again someday.  Harper knew he would never see his daughter again on this side of eternity.  His daughter would be left an orphan at six years of age.  He then turned and rushed towards the crowd of desperate humanity on the sinking ocean liner. From a survivor we learn that he called out, “women, children, and unsaved people into the lifeboats.”  John Harper understood that there was a more important thing than surviving that terrible disaster.  He understood that there were those who were unprepared to face eternity.  He understood that believers were ready to die but the unsaved were not ready.  Harper then ran along the decks, pleading with people to turn to Christ, and with the ship sinking, he called upon the Titanic’s orchestra to play, “Nearer, my God, to Thee.”  Gathering people around him on deck, he then knelt down, and “with holy joy in his face,” raised his arms in prayer.  As the sounds of terror and mayhem continued, Harper focused on his God-given purpose. Survivors reported seeing him on the upper deck on his knees and surrounded by terrified passengers, he was sharing Christ and praying for their salvation. The ship began to lurch and break apart.  Most people thought it was an explosion; actually, the gargantuan ship was literally breaking in half.  At this point, many people jumped off the decks and into the frigid, icy, dark waters below.  John Harper was one of these people who were forced to jump into the icy waters.  He swam frantically to all the perishing he could reach, beseeching them to turn to the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved.  That night 1,528 people went into the frigid waters.  John Harper was seen swimming frantically to people in the water, leading them to Jesus before the hypothermia became fatal.  Mr. Harper swam up to one young man who had climbed up on a piece of debris.  John Harper asked him as he gasped between breaths, “Are you saved?”  The young man, who was near shock, replied that he was not.  John Harper then took off his life jacket and threw it to the man and said, “Here then, you need this more than I do” only to then quickly swim away to other people. A few minutes later, Harper swam back to the young man and succeeded in leading him to salvation.  Of the 1,528 people that went into the water that night; only six were rescued by the lifeboats, and John Harper was not one of them.  In his last moment, this tireless man of undying faith continued his life pursuit of winning lost souls.  As his body succumbed to the intense cold of the icy water, his body frozen, but his heart afire, John Harper’s beckoning call to the lost and perishing before he slipped under the water was, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved” (Acts 16:31). Four years later, a young Scotsman by the name of Aguilla Webb, who was one of the six individuals pulled out alive from the icy waters stood up in a meeting in Hamilton, Canada, and gave the following testimony: I am a survivor of the Titanic. When I was drifting alone on a spar (wood debris) that awful night, the tide brought Mr. John Harper of Glasgow, also on a piece of wreck, near me. ‘Man,’ he said, ‘Are you saved?’  ‘No,’ I said, ‘I am not.’ He replied, ‘Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.’  The waves bore him away; but, strange to say, brought him back a little later, and he said, ‘Are you saved now?’  ‘No,’ I said, ‘I cannot honestly say that I am.’  He said again, ‘Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved,’ and shortly after, he went down; and there, alone in the night, and with two miles of water under me, I believed.  I am John Harper’s last convert. Does Hollywood remember this man?  No.  It doesn’t matter, Heaven does!  This man’s heroism will be ringing throughout the eons of eternity.  This faithful servant of God lived his life for an Audience of One.  While other people were trying to buy their way onto the lifeboats and selfishly trying to save their own lives, John Harper gave up his life so that others could be saved.  John Harper was truly the hero of the Titanic!  When the Titanic began her voyage there were three classes of passengers: first, second, and third class, but when she came to her abrupt end, history records only two kinds of passengers: those who were lost and those who were saved.  Even so, God’s word divides all humanity neatly into only two classes.  “And this is the record that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.  He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life” (1 John 5:11-12).   There’s a lost and dying world of people who are drowning in a sea of sin, who desperately need to be rescued.  May you and I be passionate, relentless, determined, and consumed “Life-Savers” for Jesus! “Greater love hath no man than this that he lay down his life for his friends…”   John 15:13 The great hymn writer Fanny Crosby penned these powerful words in the hymn Rescue the Perishing:   Rescue the perishing, care for the dying, snatch them in pity from sin and the grave; weep o’er the erring one, lift up the fallen, tell them of Jesus, the mighty to save.   Rescue the perishing, care for the dying; Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save.   Though they are slighting him, still he is waiting, waiting the penitent child to receive; plead with them earnestly, plead with them gently; he will forgive if they only believe.   Rescue the perishing, care for the dying; Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save.   Down in the human heart, crushed by the tempter, feelings lie buried that grace can restore; touched by a loving heart, wakened by kindness, chords that were broken will vibrate once more. Rescue the perishing, care for the dying; Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save. Rescue the perishing, duty demands it; strength for thy labor the Lord will provide; back to the narrow way patiently win them; tell the poor wanderer a Savior has died. Rescue the perishing, care for the dying;

“When you fish for fish, you catch something that’s alive that’s going to die.

When you fish for men, you catch someone dead that’s going to live.”

Seeing The Shanty Towns of South Africa For The First Time

Poor American = Rich African

The experience of seeing the shanty towns in South Africa for the first time. The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.” (Luke 4:18-19) “Stop the car” I yelled out to pastor Malvory as we drove down a steep hill in East London, South Africa. He pulled over to the side of the road wondering what was wrong. It’s been said that a picture speaks a thousand words and did this one ever! I didn’t want to miss this one. Quickly, I grabbed my camera and jumped out of the car to click one of the most profound pictures I had even taken in my life. There, sitting on the top of a hill, was a beautiful church shining in all her glory. Surrounding the perimeter of the church grounds was a huge block wall that must have been at least 10 feet tall. On the other side of the wall was some of the worst abject poverty that I had ever seen. Jesus said that a city set on a hill cannot be hid; likewise, it was obvious that this church was not hid from this community. The ultimate question I had…was the community hid from this church? A fence or a wall conveys the message “say out!” It says, “We’re here and you’re there. You stay on your side and we’ll stay on our side.” As I pondered the immense perplexity of the scene, I couldn’t help but wonder what was that church doing to reach the multitudes on the other side of this wall? Were they proactive and reaching out to a lost and hurting world on the other side of the wall or were they an island unto themselves? Were they impacting these needy people or were they now an isolated, insulated, inoculated institution completely oblivious from the obvious plight of the hurting outside and below them. I still wonder to this day. The reaction cannot be described adequately with words when a person sees the poverty of Africa for the first time. As a westerner, one realizes very quickly that the poorest of poor in America is wealthy in comparison to the majority of Africans. I remember driving down a road in Malawi with pastor Malvory years ago. I had an empty 2 liter bottle as trash so I asked pastor Malvory what I should do with it; he simply replied, “Throw it out the window my brother, they can use it!” Although I was puzzled, I threw the bottle out the window. The bottle had hardly hit the pavement before someone rushed over and grabbed it. I was amazed to say the least. What we count as trash in the western world, they count as treasure and utilize almost everything. We complain about having to get up from the table to get a glass of water; yet many Africans don’t complain about walking miles to get contaminated water. It’s been said that the greatest crime in the Sahara Desert is to know where the water is and not to tell. I believe that the greatest crime in modern Christendom is to know where the “Living Water” is and not to tell. May we cross the street to the other side and rescue the perishing; care for the dying!

Meeting Malvory Peffer For The First Time

ETI & God’s Love In Africa Unite

A friend once asked me what it was like when I met Brother Malvory for the first time and how God moved the two of us to work together. Proverbs 20:24 says, “Man’s goings are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?” It was in 2007 when I was invited to go to Africa with a church group. Although the LORD has allowed me to go on numerous trips to other countries, this was my first trip to Africa. I had been praying and seeking God’s face concerning whether I should go or not, and actually had some earthly reservations about going, but still felt He wanted me to go. I didn’t want to go on a “glorified vacation”, but wanted to work hard. My plea to the Lord was, I want to be God’s man, in God’s place, at God’s time for such a time as this, to be used to greatly impact His Kingdom! As we arrived in Africa, we were met with a nice combie (big van) to pick us up. We stayed at a very nice bed and breakfast and a hotel while we were there and it was comfortable. We helped teach some pastors at a church; it was wonderful, yet something seemed missing. Little did I know that God had entirely different plans for this trip! Proverbs 16:9 says, “A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.” As the group split up and went different directions, God sovereignly planned that I would go way out into the country where tanother pastoral training conference was taking place. Although it wasn’t much of training, the LORD allowed me to have one hour to share, train, and inspire these pastors to be sold out/passionate witnesses for Jesus. As I went back to my seat, I heard a voice behind me say, “My brother, I must speak with you!” As I turned around, there stood before me a man with a smile as big as he was with a glimmer in his eyes. As we began to speak, I found out that this man had been through the fire! He lived and grew up under the evil apartheid system where 20% of whites ruled the 80% of blacks. This racist political regime seemed to discriminate and permeate almost every facet of this man’s life; yet, going through the fire he did not get burned, but came out as refined gold. “What a man of God” I thought. Pastor Malvory was a man of fervent prayer and had been in the ministry for over 30 years. As David and Jonathan’s heart became knit, so our hearts immediately became knit together; we both knew it! Shortly after we met, Malvory said to me, “My brother, I believe that in this life, God brings some people into our lives for a reason; He brings some people into our lives for a season; and He brings some people into our life for a lifetime…My brother, I honestly believe He has brought us into each other’s lives for a LIFETIME!” This was evident as our hearts resonated with the same passion, the same goals, and the same love for people and the lost. We wanted our lives to make an eternal impact for the Kingdom of God! Malvory then said to me, “My brother, how about if I take you around and let you see the ‘real Africa’ and how most of the people really live?’” I then got permission from the person who was leading the trip. That afternoon, in a few short hours, little did I know, my life would be radically changed forever! Malvory took me to a little two bedroom house where an old lady watched over and took care of 25 AIDS orphan children. My heart just melted and broke as I held and hugged these little children with the sentence of death upon them. We shared the Gospel with them and numerous kids invited Christ to come into their hearts. Malvory then took me to several AIDS hospices where many of these people were in the last stages of this ravaging disease. We shared the Gospel with them and several gave their hearts to Jesus. We went to squatter camps and saw the most deplorable conditions imaginable. I remember going into a lady’s house (if you could call it that) that was built out of trashed wood, metal, or anything that would hold it together. She had a sheet for a door, no glass in the windows, a dirt floor and was laying on a cot eaten-up with AIDS and close to death. After praying for her, we left and I was changed. After musing on all that the LORD had shown me, how could my heart not be changed? I went there to minister, but I was ministered to! It was this turn of events that the LORD used to begin ETI’s great work in Africa! Since then, GOD has set a fire in our hearts that has not gone out; but on the contrary, has intensified into a raging inferno! Since the day that God set up this divine appointment for Malvory and I to meet, He has allowed us to train many pastors, do open air preaching, preach and encourage believers at a myriad of churches, preached in prisons, public and private schools to tens of thousands of kids, with principals, teachers, over-comer groups, AIDS clinics, orphanages, on the streets, etc., etc. We know and are confident that this is just the beginning! We have determined to let the size of our God determine the size of our goals (Ephesians 3:20; Psalm 118:23; 1 Corinthians 1:31). The open doors are incredible and we are asking the Lord to continuously rise up warriors to join our army with their time, talent and resources. The time is short; the needs great! Malvory and I are faithfully praying, trusting, and believing that the LORD of the harvest is going to bring us many laborers to help bring in this vast harvest! Will you join us?

God Is Kicked Out of American Schools, Shows Up In Africa!

Invitations To Schools In Africa

The experience of being invited into schools in Africa contrasted with the godless schools of America. “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD: and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.” (Psalm 33:12) “Brother Dave, when you Americans kicked God out of your schools in the 1960’s, He showed up in Africa!” These words from South African pastor Malvory Peffer continue to resonate in my ears since the day he spoke them to me long ago. Over the years, the LORD has allowed me to go on many mission trips to numerous countries. The first mission trip I ever went on in the early 1990’s was to the former Soviet Union. Before I even got off the plane, it didn’t take long for me to understand the repercussions of a country that decides to remove God from its moral fabric. What was the end result? Complete and total hopelessness! Very few people smiled; alcoholism was rampant, corruption was everywhere. My interpreter Max told me that the reason nobody ever smiled in the Soviet Union was because they’d been told for over 70 years that there was no God and they had no hope. He then said, “Dave, over here in the Soviet Union, the only time people laugh is when they’re drunk or they’re crazy. When Americans come over here, they’re always laughing; we know that they’re not drunk, so we just assume that all Americans are crazy.” In retrospect, America had better repent quickly as we are rapidly descending down the same path. Before America ever became a nation, its foundation was strong and the children’s education was strong. From the 1690’s to the early1900’s, the New England Primer was the primary textbook used. The children would learn the alphabet as such, “A-In Adams fall we sinned all. B-Heaven to find the Bible mind; C- Christ crucified for sinners died…” The philosophy was that if children could learn to read, they then would be able to read the Bible and thus become better citizens. Contrast that with today’s philosophy which is diametrically opposed to the Word of God. In the early 1960’s America took prayer out of school; in 1967 America decided to remove the 10 Commandments from its public schools and decided not to be governed anymore by God and His principles, and knowingly or unknowingly, embraced humanistic ideologies. The result has been complete and total havoc and erosion from the core principles that made America great and what she was founded upon. In used to be in America that the top problems in public schools were running in the halls, talking out of turn, and chewing gum in class. Now the major issues are teen pregnancy, drug abuse, murder, etc. When looking at the schools in America in relation to the schools in Africa, there is no comparison. Illegal in America, but legal in South Africa, we have open opportunities to share the Gospel in the public schools? Aren’t those closed to the Gospel? Not in Africa! Statistics reveal 85% of all people who get saved will do so before the age of 18. We are very aware of this fact. E.T.I. is fortunate to have almost carte-blanche access to share the Gospel with millions of kids! We understand that these kids are the future of Africa and that GOD has opened an incredible door of opportunity! Usually, we share the Gospel to the entire school. It’s not uncommon for us to share the Gospel at 3 schools in a day, with 900-1,200 kids at each school. If you do the math, that could be an average of 3,000 kids a day, 15,000 kids a week; 60,000 a month; 720,000 a year; that’s almost 3 million kids hearing the Gospel in just four years! What’s more, the students, the teachers, the principles are begging us to come. We must move quickly as these open-doors could close in the near future. One of the greatest sights and sounds is watching and hearing almost entire schools invite Christ into their lives! We have had so many kids come up to us afterwards and tell us “I feel so different!” These kids are very serious about their faith and the majority comes from homes where they have basically nothing. Please pray for us and consider joining us on our team! Jesus said, “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these My brethren, ye have done it unto Me.” (Matthew 25:40)

It’s not Ability; It’s Availability!

Are You Available?

God’s not looking for ability; He’s looking for availability! His eyes “run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him” (2 Chronicles 16:9). He’s perpetually looking for a man, a woman, a child, a young person that He can show Himself strong through. His eyes are constantly searching for that individual who desires nothing more than to live their life for an Audience of One. The Apostle Paul understood this very well when he proclaimed, “For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ” (Galatians 1:10). Paul was a God-pleaser. He understood that God longs to use what the world despises and esteems as nothing when he said in 1 Corinthians 1:26-29. For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in His presence. The annals of recorded history reveal numerous God-pleasing men and women: David Livingston, Dwight L. Moody; Charles and John Wesley; Martin Luther; John Calvin; Charles Haddon Spurgeon just to name a few. The hall of faith in Hebrews 11 reveal a plethora of such sold-out saints who refused to cave in to this world’s enticement, but chose rather to live for the eternal, knowing what they did in this life was going to echo throughout the eons of eternity. The great man of faith, George Mueller, who took care of over 10,000 orphans, saw God supernaturally provide for all these orphans once said: There was a day when I died, utterly died — died to George Mueller, his opinions, preferences, tastes, and will; died to the world, its approval or censure; died to the approval or blame even of my brethren and friends — and since then I have only to show myself approved to God. The great theologian Matthew Henry once said, “If Christianity be worth anything, it is worth everything.” If Jesus is worth anything, HE is worth everything! Is HE worth everything to you? You see God’s not looking for your ability, He’s looking for your availability! How available are you to God? Years ago, a little boy could be seen walking down a hot Mediterranean beach. The tide had washed in tens of thousands of starfish and they were dying in the hot Mediterranean sun. A little boy could be seen picking up starfish and throwing them back into the ocean as fast as he could. The sweat was pouring off his face, he was exhausted, but he was relentless. His untiring compassion for the starfish kept driving him to throw in just one more. Well, an old man could be seen walking down the beach, and as that old man got closer and closer, he began to realize what the little boy was doing. Finally, when he got up to where the little boy was, he laughed and shook his head and said, “Little boy, little boy…Stop! Stop! What are you doing! The old man continued on…He said, “Look down the beach…What do you see?” The little boy said “Starfish.” The old man said, “Now, look down the other way…What do you see?” The little boy said, “Starfish.” The old man said, “Son, you can’t possibly make a difference in the lives of all these starfish, you might as well forget it! You’re wasting your time, just go home.” That wise little boy stooped down, picked up a starfish and looked up at the old man, and then through the starfish out into the ocean. “Kerr-plunk!” He then turned and looked up at the old man with a big smile on his face and said, “Made a difference in his life! Friends, you and I might not be able to reach all the multitudes, but everyone we do reach, we make a difference! This little boy was available and every starfish that hit the water was grateful! GOD is not looking for ability, HE’s looking for availability. If you make yourself available to GOD, you will see a side of GOD that you could never imagine! You will see HIM do what Ephesians 3:20 says; HE will do “exceeding abundantly above all that you could ask or think”!

A Reminder To Our Nations

Written by Malvory Peffer

From Malvory Peffer – A reminder to our nations… BILLY GRAHAM, Current Age: 90, Truth..from a man the media has never been able to throw dirt on…..amazing! He has certainly hit the “world” on the head! Billy Graham’s Prayer For Our Nation THIS MAN SURE HAS A GOOD VIEW OF WHAT’S HAPPENING TO OUR COUNTRY! ‘Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, ‘Woe to those who call evil good,’ but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare. We have killed our unborn and called it choice. We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable. We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem. We have abused power and called it politics. We have coveted our neighbour’s possessions and called it ambition. We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression. We have ridiculed the time-honoured values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment. Search us, Oh God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and Set us free. Amen!’ Commentator Paul Harvey aired this prayer on his radio program, ‘The Rest of the Story,’ and received a larger response to this program than any other he has ever aired. With the Lord’s help, may this prayer sweep over our nation and wholeheartedly become our desire so that we again can be called ‘One nation under God!’ Think about this: If you forward this prayer to everyone on your e-mail list, in less than 30 days it would be heard by the world. (It’s worth a try!) ’One Nation Under God!

A Divine Intervention

Witnessing To Hindus

It was getting late in the day and I was waiting for my wife Linda to come out to the truck so we could leave. The lawn mower was loaded up and I was ready to leave to go cut the lawn on a lot that we had. When Linda came out with my son Caleb, something felt terribly wrong. This dark heaviness came over my spirit and I felt a strange-errie feeling. I explained it to my wife as we stood out by the truck and said, “Linda, I don’t know what we should do, should we stay home?” She immediately said, “Let’s pray!” “Gee” I thought, “Why didn’t I think of that?” Just as soon as we had finished praying and asking for the Lord’s protection, etc., the dark-heavy cloud was gone. Well, we drove out to the country, mowed the lot, and by now darkness permeated the roadway as we traveled home. Suddenly, I saw something horrible out of my peripheral vision and shouted to my wife; “Linda, I think I just saw a kid lying on the side of the road in a pool of blood!” She yelled out, “What?” I immediately hit the brakes and turned my truck around as fast as I could. I ran as fast as I could to the person lying on the ground and was the first person on the scene. There, laying in pool of blood was a precious Indian lady who had just been run over by a car! Without getting too graphic, a car that was in front of me hit her head on, her head and body her head was split and she was laying in a large pool of blood. It turns out she and her fiancé were crossing a very busy road. He made it across, she did not. Her fiancé’ was screaming. I asked him what her name was and he said Pubati. This precious lady was gasping for breath and just hanging onto life. Immediately, I dropped to my knees and began to whisper into Pubati’s ear… Just a side note; if you’re in a hospital or on the scene where somebody seems unconscious, always share the Gospel! Doctors and nurses will tell you that often people who are not able to respond to you, can still hear you. It’s so incredible! It’s like the Lord is reaching out to the last possible sense in the last possible moment of the person’s life and saying, “Just grab on to Me by faith, and I will save you!” No wonder Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” …As I knelt down and began to speak to Pubati, the crowd grew larger. A precious lady dropped to her knees and began crying and kept praying “Oh Jesus, Oh Jesus!” The bewildered crowd looked helplessly on. I remember briefly glancing at the crowd; they seemed so helpless, empty, and unable to do anything. Their faces were easy to read, “It could have been me.” My mouth was right next to Pubati’s ear and I whispered, “Pubati, my name is Dave, you’ve been in an accident, but help is on its way.” As that point, I began to share what I call “the Gospel in a nutshell.” Paul said in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.” I didn’t have time to go into great detail as she lay there dying. I continued, “Pubati, there’s a God in Heaven who loves you more than you could ever imagine and desires a relationship with you. However, Pubati, there’s a very serious problem in our life; all of us have sinned and broken God’s commandments. We’ve all lied, we’ve all taken things that weren’t ours, we’ve all had evil thoughts, etc. Pubati, God is holy. He is perfect, pure, and righteous, and because He is so holy, He can’t let one of our sins into heaven. Pubati, we are guilty and our sins have separated us from God. But Pubati, there’s great news. God knew we could never work our way to heaven by being good, so 2,000 years ago He came to us. Jesus is God and He left His home in Heaven; lived 33 perfect years and never sinned once. Pubati, Jesus lived the perfect life that you and I could never live. He went to the cross and died for your sins, was buried, and three days later rose from the dead. Pubati, if you were the only person who ever lived, Jesus still would have come down from heaven and died just for you. He loves you that much. Pubati, I know that you can’t talk right now, but I believe you can hear me. The Bible says if you will believe in your heart that Jesus died for you and you call on Him, Jesus would save you from your sins right now. Pubati, the Bible says if you believe that He died and rose again for you and you’re willing to call upon Him, He would come into your life right now. Pubati, I know you can’t talk right now, so you can just pray this in your heart…” I then broke up a simple prayer for her and said, “Dear Jesus, forgive me of my sins,; Come into my life today; I trust You to take me to heaven when I die; Thank you for saving me.” The ambulance came. The helicopter came and took her away. Did she die? Yes, she did. A week or so later, I saw in the obituary in the newspaper that Pubati’s funeral had just passed. I found out where her family was and visited them. There were numerous family members there at the house. I knocked on their door, they invited me in, and I then shared with them that I was the first one on the scene to see Pubati. I then shared with them what I shared with Pubati. Their hearts were pricked by the power of the Gospel and all of them accepted Jesus into their lives with tears. Always remember, when witnessing to a Hindu, you must always have them denounce all of their other gods, and turn to the One True and Living God, Jesus Christ. If you don’t, they will just add Jesus on as one more of their millions of gods. When I shared the Gospel with Pubati and with her family, I informed them that they must turn from their false gods to Jesus Christ. You see, God had set up a divine appointment for my wife and I. Time was of the essence. We didn’t have time to take a refresher course. The time was now! Are you ready and available to share Jesus right now? God could open an amazing encounter for you today if you’re sword is sharp and ready. The winds of the Spirit are blowing each and every day looking for that individual who is available to make Jesus known.
